The Best Means of Fund Raising...
Dec 13th, 2007
I came across an interesting topic/article that I thought would be an interesting read...
I have a server. Severe diabetic. So much so that she wears and an insulin pump 24/7. Her kidneys are failing. She needs a transplant.
For all of the above there is nothing I can do for her. However, because of these medical expenses her and her husband could lose everything. He's a factory worker (same job for 17 years) and his insurance covers her. However, their portion of the co-pays on the procedure and subsequent medications are going to wipe them out. They could lose their house, their retirement and so on.
I plan on doing a fund raiser for her. I want to raise $10,000.
Right now here are some ideas I have.
Her father also works at a factory. It's a Snap-On Tool factory. This particular factory makes the big rolling tool cabinets that professional mechanics use. These things go for upwards of $5000. He has worked there for 30 years. I want to ask them if they will donate a cabinet to be raffled off. Depending on the cabinet I think that would get us about $2500 - give or take.
Second, I have a mailing list of about 3500 names. Everyone on the list I send a free birthday dinner. I had thought that I could ask all of them for a small donation. I would enclose a self address envelope to make it easy for them.
Third, a fund raiser here (band - donated auction items, etc) that I think could raise at least a $1000
Any other ideas...?

After reviewing the replies I found this one to be the most resourceful:
Sell chances for $100.00 each limit it to 100-250 chances, winner gets a free dinner for 2, entrees only, once a month for life. The publicity you would get would pay for it, not that is your intention. $10,000.00- $25,000.00, not bad.
Buy a really old junker, sell sledge hammer swings, a bash for cash.
Golf tourney in the spring, you cater the after tourney dinner, deduct food costs.
Large glass jar with picture and short explination positioned in a key location so patrons can help.
Ask your local grade and middle schools to do a walk a thon
Get your local radio stations to do public service announcements about all your doing.
See if you can get enough of your other chef/owners to take part in a "Taste for life" food evening, featuring one of their specialties
See if other restaurants, 7-11's etc, will allow a jar.
Ask your local paper if they will run a free add asking for the public's help, get the story out as much as possible.
Gourmet dinner with a silent auction.
Sell tickets to a treasure hunt, make it fun but difficult and worth it.
Get the High School to sponsor a car wash.
Auction your services for a dinner for 8, at the winners house.
These I hope help.
